Helpful and in Danger: Attributes and Correlates of Perceived Occupational Heroism
Across two preregistered correlational studies with representative U.K. samples (N = 1,270), we found that occupational heroism is associated with workers’ perceived helpfulness and exposure to risk. Heroized workers appear to benefit from a moral shield - facing less acceptable criticism and greater support for deregulation and leniency toward rule-breaking.
